Why “operators” and “casinos” are different numbers
The report counts licensees, and a licensee is a licensed operator, not always a separate building. A resort’s sportsbook or a table-games operator can file its own report from inside the same property. That is why the Strip has 58 operators reporting but 38 locations with slot machines. Counting the places with a slot floor is the closest match to what most visitors mean by a casino.
A few giants hold most of the Strip
The 25 Strip operators that win more than $72 million a year account for 28,998 of the Strip’s 35,430 slot machines (82%) and 2,263 of its 2,516 table and card games (90%). In August 2026 the Strip as a whole won $684 million from gamblers, and Downtown won $62 million.
What these numbers leave out
- Bars, taverns and stores with a few slot machines. They hold restricted licenses, which this report does not include.
- Places that did not report that month. A location is counted when it files revenue for the period, and the regulator revises figures after late filings and audits.
- Name changes and closures. The report counts licensed locations, not brand names, so it will not tell you which resort is which.
